Inspiring Effort: Ja Rulay and Belissa Cruz Deliver Aid to Holguín After Hurricane Melissa

Monday, November 3, 2025 by Alex Smith

The renowned singer Ja Rulay alongside actress Belissa Cruz have embarked on a mission to distribute aid and support to the communities in Holguín affected by the devastating Hurricane Melissa.

“More than artists, we are human beings. It’s not about sending help, it’s about being there and supporting our fellow citizens. Stay strong, my Eastern people, we will overcome this,” Rulay expressed on social media, where he has been actively sharing updates on their relief efforts.

Joining this commendable initiative are the Familia Cubana project and urban artist BR, who have been pivotal in distributing food, clothing, and essential items to those most in need.

Their first stop was in Cueto, one of the municipalities hardest hit by Melissa in Holguín. The team also made their presence known in Pueblo Nuevo, a suburb of Holguín city, bringing hope and supplies.

This noble gesture has garnered heartfelt gratitude from many Cubans on social media, as well as from the residents of Holguín.

Messages of appreciation such as “Only the people can save the people” and “On the streets supporting the great people” highlight the community’s support and thankfulness.

The actions of these artists stand in stark contrast to the indifference often displayed by members of the regime’s leadership.

This Sunday, many questioned the whereabouts of Lis Cuesta, known as the “non-first lady” of the Cuban regime. Despite being a native of Holguín, she has shown no empathy towards the victims, instead choosing to share political propaganda about the U.S. embargo.
