A Cuban family has proudly launched their own restaurant in downtown Columbia, South Carolina, fulfilling the American dream they began crafting from scratch after immigrating to the United States.

The establishment, aptly named Cuban Corner, represents the hard work of the Galguera family, a group of five who arrived in the U.S. just a few years ago. Their culinary journey began with a humble food stall at the local Soda City Market, where they served Cuban dishes.

Now, their enterprise boasts a permanent spot at the intersection of Sumter and Hampton streets, right in the city's bustling center. This milestone was highlighted by local NBC affiliate WIS News 10, which noted the restaurant's lively and welcoming atmosphere.

"This country welcomed us with open arms, especially Columbia, South Carolina, and I am deeply thankful," expressed Yaema Galguera, co-owner of the restaurant, during its opening ceremony.

Her words capture the sentiment of thousands of Cubans who, like her, seek a fresh start and a chance to share their heritage in the United States.

On social media, the Galguera family also expressed their gratitude to the city that embraced them. "It was an emotional weekend at work, but my heart is filled with gratitude," they shared on the official Cuban Corner Food page.

They extended their thanks to Columbia's Mayor Daniel Rickenmann, local media, and everyone who attended the inauguration: "Thank you for believing in our dream and welcoming us so warmly."

The restaurant features traditional dishes such as Cuban sandwiches and empanadas, aiming to bring the flavors and warmth of Cuba to the southern United States.

"My English isn't the best, but our food sure is," Galguera quipped with a laugh, underscoring that passion for cooking speaks volumes.

The opening of Cuban Corner stands as a testament to a family's triumph over adversity, having worked various jobs to survive before turning their dream into reality.

"I can't quite put into words how I feel, but it's incredible... like a dream come true," Galguera admitted from their new location, where the aroma of their cuisine and the laughter of patrons evoke a piece of Cuba in the heart of South Carolina.
