María Victoria Gil, the former television presenter and sister of the ousted Alejandro Gil, has revealed that the prosecution is seeking a life sentence against her brother, as confirmed by a "source close to the investigation."
"If Alejandro Gil has betrayed his principles, I won't hesitate to wish for the full weight of the law to fall upon him," stated the sister of the former Minister of Economy in an interview with the independent media outlet 14yMedio.
Residing in the Canary Islands, María Victoria has been vocal about her brother's dismissal and imprisonment, expressing her "pain and shame."
"I think of our parents who, wherever they are, must be covered in shame. They raised us on principles of honesty and justice," she remarked.
She finds the "exceptional sum of charges" against him, including espionage, which carries the death penalty, to be astounding.
When asked about other defendants by 14yMedio, Vicky Gil admitted knowing nothing beyond "last night's broadcast on Cuban Television's Estelar."
She also mentioned having no information about the status of her sister-in-law, Gina María González, and her nephews: "I am unaware of their situation because I have them blocked."
On Saturday, the Communist Party of Cuba's leaders and government entities took to social media with the hashtag #CeroImpunidad to promote a "zero tolerance" message against corruption following the General Prosecutor's charges against Alejandro Gil Fernández, former Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Planning.
Among the most visible statements, Susely Morfa González, the first secretary of the PCC in Villa Clara, supported the prosecution's actions as "faithful to the principles of the Revolution" and highlighted the #CeroImpunidad slogan.
Other officials, including Deivy Pérez Martín (First Secretary of the PCC of Sancti Spíritus), Marisol Fuentes Ferrer (member of the PCC Provincial Bureau in Mayabeque), Isael Rodríguez (member of the PCC Provincial Bureau in Villa Clara), and Ariday Anaya (Ideological Department of the PCC in Mayabeque), echoed similar sentiments.
Regime officials stressed that the Party and Government leadership "has never allowed, nor will it ever allow, the spread of corruption, pretense, and insensitivity."
The entity formerly headed by Gil mirrored the tone of these messages, adding: "The confrontation, transparency, and zero tolerance towards such manifestations that affect our people will always be resolute and decisive."
The Ministry of Finance and Prices also aligned with the official stance, emphasizing the "confrontation" of activities affecting the people.
These messages come against the backdrop of a statement from the prosecution dated October 31, 2025, asserting that the investigation was conducted "in accordance with Article 156 of the Constitution" and ensured due process during the proceedings by the Ministry of Interior's organs.
With the investigation concluded, the case moved to judicial proceedings, but no schedules or details of subsequent actions have been disclosed.
The indictment includes a broad spectrum of charges: espionage; actions harming economic activity or contracting; embezzlement; bribery; forgery of public documents; tax evasion; influence peddling; money laundering; violation of classified document protection norms; and theft and damage of documents or objects under official custody.
The prosecution emphasized that it acts "on behalf of the State," in line with its constitutional mandate, and has requested prison sentences "in accordance with the committed acts."
The digital prominence of the #CeroImpunidad campaign coincides with the nation grappling with the aftermath of Hurricane Melissa, adding political weight to the official framing of the case and the insistence on demonstrating institutional discipline against corruption.
The coordination of messages from provincial cadres and central organizations aims to convey unity of purpose and decisiveness before the case reaches the trial stage.
The Gil case dates back to March 2024, when an investigation was announced following his dismissal a month prior due to "serious mistakes."
