In response to the charges filed by the General Prosecutor's Office against Alejandro Gil Fernández, former deputy prime minister and ex-minister of Economy and Planning, Communist Party leaders and government entities in Cuba have taken to social media. They are promoting the hashtag #CeroImpunidad to emphasize a "zero tolerance" stance against corruption.

One of the prominent voices was Susely Morfa González, the first secretary of the PCC in Villa Clara. She supported the Prosecutor's actions, claiming they are "loyal to the Revolution's principles" and reiterated the slogan #CeroImpunidad.

Similar sentiments were echoed by other officials such as Deivy Pérez Martín (First Secretary of the PCC in Sancti Spíritus), Marisol Fuentes Ferrer (member of the Provincial Bureau of the PCC in Mayabeque), Isael Rodríguez (member of the Provincial Bureau of the PCC in Villa Clara), and Ariday Anaya (Ideological Department of the PCC in Mayabeque).

The regime's officials underscored that the leadership of the Party and Government "has never allowed, nor will it ever allow, the spread of corruption, deceit, and insensitivity."

Gil's former ministry echoed the tone of these messages, stating, "Confrontation, transparency, and zero tolerance towards actions that harm our people will always be resolute and decisive."

Backdrop of Political Messaging Amid Crisis

Alongside, the Ministry of Finance and Prices mirrored the official stance, emphasizing the "confrontation" against actions that affect the people.

These statements come against the backdrop of an official notice from the Prosecutor's Office dated October 31, 2025. It claims the investigation was conducted "in accordance with Article 156 of the Constitution" and ensured due process during the proceedings by the Ministry of the Interior.

With the investigation concluded, the case has moved to the judicial phase, though no timeline or details about subsequent proceedings have been disclosed.

Charges and Judicial Proceedings

The charges against Gil include a wide range of offenses: espionage, activities detrimental to economic operations or contracts, embezzlement, bribery, forgery of public documents, tax evasion, influence peddling, money laundering, breach of classified document protection regulations, and theft and damage of guarded documents or objects.

The Prosecutor's Office emphasized that it acts "on behalf of the State," in accordance with its constitutional mandate, and requested prison sentences "commensurate with the committed acts."

The digital campaign #CeroImpunidad gains traction as the country copes with the aftermath of Hurricane Melissa, adding a political dimension to the official narrative and the emphasis on demonstrating institutional discipline in the face of corruption.

Historical Context and Future Proceedings

The coordinated messaging from provincial leaders and central agencies aims to convey a sense of unity and resolve before the case proceeds to trial.

The Gil case dates back to March 2024, when it was announced that a file had been opened by the Prosecutor's Office for "serious errors" following his dismissal a month earlier.

At that time, it was reported that Gil acknowledged "serious charges," resigned from the PCC and his position as a deputy, and it was noted that the greater the trust placed in an official, "the greater the rigor and intransigence" in response to deviations.

This shift followed a year of severe economic crisis, marked by food and fuel shortages, blackouts, and deteriorating services; as well as public admissions by the ex-minister regarding unmet production goals in 2023 and the failure of the Tarea Ordenamiento to achieve its objectives.

With the charges formalized and the file now with the court, the process awaits judicial actions to determine responsibilities and sanctions.
