The independent global weather visualization platform, Windy, projected on Tuesday that Hurricane Melissa would make landfall near Uvero–Chivirico in Santiago de Cuba at dawn on Wednesday, with maximum sustained winds approaching 138 miles per hour.

A specialized map from the portal windy.com shows that the powerful Category 5 hurricane is positioned close to Cuba's eastern region and is expected to reach land around 7:00 a.m. on Wednesday near Uvero–Chivirico, along Santiago de Cuba's southern coastline. Local authorities have already commenced evacuations in vulnerable communities.

The National Hurricane Center (NHC) has also issued warnings, stating that Melissa maintains maximum sustained winds of 138 miles per hour and is moving towards the north-northeast, after leaving a trail of devastation in Jamaica.

"Heavy rainfall, storm surges, and destructive winds are anticipated in the eastern part of the country," the NHC report indicated.

The eastern provinces of Cuba, including Santiago de Cuba, Guantánamo, Granma, and Holguín, are under a hurricane warning as the system threatens to cause coastal flooding, landslides, and significant infrastructure damage.

"Hurricane Melissa poses an extreme danger to human life and homes. People should stay in safe locations and avoid going out during the passage of the hurricane's eye," reiterated the National Hurricane Center.

This meteorological phenomenon, which has wreaked havoc across the Caribbean, may maintain its intensity while crossing eastern Cuba before proceeding towards the southeastern Bahamas.
