A Cuban man has been arrested in the city of Cárdenas, located in the province of Matanzas, after admitting to a spree of nine thefts in the area.
The suspect, identified as José Nivaldo Alfonso Calero, was a fugitive from justice at the time of his arrest, according to reports from the pro-government profile "Con Todos La Victoria."
Alfonso Calero's crimes in Cárdenas included stealing two motorcycles, three computer towers, two monitors, and a small gas cylinder in separate incidents within the Humberto Álvarez neighborhood.
In Santa Marta, he took various items from a private kiosk, along with a motorcycle and a bicycle from a garage.
Additionally, he committed four burglaries in Boca de Camarioca, where he notably stole two televisions from one of the homes.
Moreover, he took a motorized cart from oil wells located in the same municipality.
The official post noted that Alfonso Calero, who already had a criminal record for theft, robbery with violence, and breaking and entering, as well as escaping custody, admitted to the thefts during interrogations.
On a related note, the community was shaken by the murder of Carlos Laferte, a 61-year-old owner of the Calvo y 28 café, who was fatally stabbed multiple times by a teenager just 18 years old in Cárdenas, Matanzas.
The following day, authorities arrested a young man named Dayfred Rizo Noda Herrera, accusing him of the murder that took place Sunday night in a local bar.
