Cuban Actress Miriam Learra Passes Away at 88

The renowned Cuban actress, Miriam Learra, has passed away in Havana at the age of 88.

Friends and colleagues shared the sad news on social media, particularly on Facebook.

"Farewell to Miriam Learra, an actress with a long-standing career, especially in theater. Born in 1936, she studied in Prague on a scholarship and joined Teatro Estudio in 1966, where she collaborated with its finest directors on plays such as 'La ronda,' 'Doña Rosita la soltera,' 'Bodas de sangre,' 'Galileo Galilei,' 'El becerro de oro,' 'Don Gil de las calzas verdes,' and many more," playwright Norge Espinosa posted on Facebook.

Espinosa added, "Her journey continued with the Hubert de Blanck Company from the 1990s. Learra also had roles in radio, film, and television. She was taught by the likes of Adolfo de Luis and Vicente Revuelta."

Additionally, actor Alejandro Palomino bid farewell to Learra, saying, "Rest in peace, Miriam Learra… my divine mother-in-law from 'Cerquitica del Vedado.' Those days by your side will never be forgotten!"

According to Ecured, Learra appeared in telenovelas such as 'La séptima familia,' 'Las honradas,' and 'Tierra brava.'

She was honored with the Best Female Performance Award at the first Havana Theater Festival and also received the Best Female Performance Award at the Sitges Theater Festival in Barcelona, Spain.

The exact cause of her death has not been disclosed.
