The Cuban singer Eduardo Antonio is going through one of the most heart-wrenching times of his life following the death of his mother, Olguita, in Cuba due to dengue fever. Known as El Divo de Placetas, the artist shared a touching message on his social media to bid farewell to the woman he called his guide and greatest inspiration.
"Thank you to all my friends and followers who have been concerned about my mother's health. Unfortunately, there's a dengue pandemic in Cuba right now, which claimed my mother's life today," Eduardo Antonio wrote.
"Mom, you will be the most painful and bitter goodbye I have ever given. Thank you for every minute you gave me, for all your guidance and values. I know you'll keep guiding me from heaven with your light and beautiful energy. Save a spot for me next to you and dad. Greet my little girl Claudia and Aunt Reina for me. When my time comes to leave, I hope to be embraced by you all and tell you how difficult it was to be without you," the artist added.
Facing Grief With Resilience
Visibly shaken, Eduardo Antonio expressed the profound emptiness left by his mother's passing but vowed to continue with the strength she instilled in him: "I love you forever, my mother, and I stay here with your love and joy. I will need a lot of strength to move forward because I never imagined the pain I feel today could be so dark and deep. I promise not to let you down as a man or as an artist. I will always give my best, as you taught me, to remain your pride, to shine as an artist, and to be loved by my audience."
The singer also recalled how proud his mother was of his achievements on stage and that her greatest joy was seeing him succeed in front of his audience.
Continuing to Perform in Her Honor
"Your best medicine was always my success and the applause of my audience, the same audience I ask for support today and to whom I will continue singing with a heavy heart but with more love and strength than ever. Your blessing will always be my starting point; you will live forever in my heart, Olguita, my beautiful mother," he expressed with deep pain.
Despite his overwhelming sadness, Eduardo Antonio announced that he will not cancel his upcoming performances and will continue to sing in honor of his mother.
