Amanda Lemus Ortiz, the young Cuban girl who has touched the hearts of many both on and off the island with her courageous battle against a severe liver condition, continues to show that hope and perseverance can triumph over adversity. In a recent update shared by activist Yamilka Lafita, known online as Lara Crofs and a close family friend, it was confirmed that Amanda is doing well and is on the brink of starting school—a significant milestone in her recovery and adaptation journey following extensive treatment and rehabilitation in Spain.

The update highlighted that doctors have diagnosed Amanda with a language disorder, a common occurrence in children who have endured long-term illnesses like hers. Although she is not yet speaking fluently, specialists are optimistic that with continued support and patience, Amanda will progress.

"Amanda behaves like a one-year-old, but she is joyful, curious, and full of life," the message noted, emphasizing that she is receiving Early Childhood Intervention, a specialized program aimed at stimulating her cognitive, motor, and emotional development. The results so far are promising. Amanda has grown, frequently sings, gets out of bed on her own, and maintains a vibrant spirit that inspires those around her.

"She has a unique way of smiling and seeing the world," Crofs added, expressing gratitude for the ongoing concern and support the family continues to receive from various parts of the world.

The Cuban community, both inside and outside the country, has closely followed Amanda’s story ever since her mother sought help on social media to save her life, given the inability to access the urgent liver transplant she needed in Cuba. Thanks to the solidarity of hundreds and the medical intervention at the Hospital Universitario La Paz in Madrid, Amanda underwent a liver transplant in March 2024. Since then, her recovery has been a source of hope for many Cubans grappling with the deficiencies of the island's healthcare system.

Now, as she prepares for her first school experience, Amanda symbolizes the strength of Cuban childhood and the power of a united community that overcame bureaucracy and systemic obstacles to save a life. "God bless you, beautiful little one," the post concluded. "Without a doubt, you continue to be a beacon of hope for this land that saw you born."
