Cuban Driver Detained After Intense Road Rage Incident in Miami-Dade

A Cuban national was taken into custody this past Sunday following a violent road rage incident in southwest Miami-Dade. What initially appeared to be a minor traffic mishap rapidly escalated into a perilous confrontation involving a chase, threats, and the discharge of a firearm, as reported by local media citing law enforcement sources.

The incident unfolded shortly after 4:00 p.m. in the residential area of Hammocks, specifically near Southwest 168th Street and 110th Avenue. According to the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office report, the victim—whose identity remains undisclosed—accidentally hit a parked car in front of a home during a moment of confusion. Still in shock, the driver decided to continue westward with the intention of returning to the scene shortly thereafter.

However, before the driver could rectify the situation, events took a dramatic turn. As per his account, two men in a silver vehicle began persistently tailing him. Authorities later identified these individuals as Yulio Navarro-Morales and José Luaces, with at least one reportedly of Cuban descent.

Chase, Threats, and Gunfire

The two men intercepted the victim’s car at a nearby intersection. One of them exited the vehicle, approached the driver's window aggressively, and shouted for him to stop and wait for the police. Fearing for his safety, the victim sped away, at which point he heard a gunshot behind him. The bullet, according to the police report, struck the right rear bumper of his vehicle, but thankfully, the driver was not injured.

The pursuit did not end there. Over several streets, Navarro-Morales and Luaces continued to follow the victim until reaching the intersection of Southwest 112th Avenue and 168th Street. There, Navarro-Morales blocked the victim’s path with his car once again. In this second confrontation, he emerged from his vehicle wielding a firearm, directly aiming it at the driver.

Terrified, the victim remained inside his car until law enforcement arrived on the scene. Navarro-Morales and Luaces were subsequently detained for questioning.

One Arrested, Serious Charges Filed

Although both men were initially held by police, only Yulio Navarro-Morales was formally arrested. The arrest report indicates he is facing charges of discharging a deadly missile and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, both serious offenses under Florida law. The Cuban national was transported to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center (TGK) with bail set at $5,000.

Authorities have not yet disclosed whether José Luaces will face additional charges or if his involvement will simply be recorded as an accomplice. For now, the case remains under investigation, with more evidence expected to be presented in the judicial proceedings against Navarro-Morales in the coming days.
