A Hero Worthy of Respect: La Diosa Honors José Daniel Ferrer Following His Exile to the U.S.

Wednesday, October 15, 2025 by Robert Castillo

Cuban singer La Diosa recently extended her heartfelt words to José Daniel Ferrer, the leader of the Patriotic Union of Cuba (UNPACU), after his arrival in the United States following his exile by the Cuban regime from Mar Verde prison. "I am thrilled because Daniel Ferrer arrived in the United States today. I want to welcome him, a true hero, a hero who genuinely deserves respect, who has done so much for the Cuban people, having spent many years in the dungeons, which no one can take away from him," expressed Dianelys Alfonso Cartaya, known as La Diosa, in a video shared on her social media platforms.

La Diosa wished for Ferrer to rediscover life: "I only wish for you to live now, to live in freedom, to enjoy your life, the years that God allows you to live, but to live, truly live, in the best way possible."

Messages of Support and Reflections on Struggles

The singer also commented on the perceived lack of public support Ferrer faced: "I feel that the Cuban people did not respond to you, and yet you remained steadfast, with your conviction, with your principles, and with your ideals. That is why I have respect for you."

"I know that perhaps you have a sadness that you couldn't see the fall of that dictatorship, at least with your own hands, but it will fall, Ferrer, it will fall, in its time, when the Cubans understand how it's done," she asserted. "I only ask God that before you close your eyes, you can see it from this side, with your family, with your children. But live, this time think a little about yourself," she added.

The artist concluded her message with a direct political statement: "Down with the dictatorship every single day of this world, down with the communists, down with all of them, but you, Ferrer, rise."

Arrival in the U.S. and Community Reactions

This past Monday, Ferrer was transported directly from prison to the Santiago de Cuba airport, where he boarded a flight to the United States. He arrived in Miami accompanied by his wife, Nelva Ismarays Ortega Tamayo, and three of their children, as he mentioned during a press conference at the headquarters of the Cuban American National Foundation (FNCA).

During the press meeting, Ferrer expressed joy at being reunited with his family, while also conveying his sorrow for those who remain imprisoned in Cuba. La Diosa's message joins other public expressions of support following Ferrer's arrival in exile.

Community Leaders and Influencers Speak Out

He left Cuba with his dignity intact and his head held high." Ugás also noted, "He gave his life for a people that did not support him" and called for him to be treated as a hero.

From Cuba, opposition leader Berta Soler of the Ladies in White highlighted: "Brother José Daniel, you did everything for the Cuban people, and you almost lost your life. That family needs you. You are now in a free country, a land of opportunities." Her words circulated on social media shortly after Ferrer's arrival in Miami.

During the FNCA conference, Rosa María Payá described him as "a hero of all Cubans" and assured, "It will be a short exile, I assure you."
