Monday, October 13, 2025 by Zoe Salinas

José Daniel Ferrer García, a prominent opposition leader forcibly exiled by the Cuban regime, arrived in Miami on Monday and shared his complex feelings in his first public statements on American soil. "I'm happy to be with my family, free from the fear of a sudden raid on our home; delighted to be in a land of freedom with many dear friends who are close to me and my family. Yet, I'm deeply saddened, especially for those who remain imprisoned," he told Telemundo 51 shortly after reaching the headquarters of the Cuban American National Foundation (CANF).

Upon his arrival at the CANF, Ferrer received a warm welcome from fellow dissident Rosa María Payá, and he is scheduled to hold a press conference there later today. Addressing journalists and members of the Cuban exile community gathered at the CANF's main office, Ferrer vowed that "the struggle continues with renewed effort both inside and outside of Cuba." He emphasized the urgency of ending Cuba's dictatorship before the conclusion of Donald Trump's presidency.

The founder and leader of the Patriotic Union of Cuba (UNPACU) highlighted the serious challenge that the United States faces with communism in Cuba, noting, "In addressing this, the U.S. would also be helping itself." During the press conference, he firmly stated, "We are aware that there are many agents posing as opposition figures in Cuba and even here."

Ferrer, recently released from imprisonment, arrived in Miami with his family on a flight from Santiago de Cuba, landing at Miami International Airport (MIA) in the afternoon. This story is developing...
