Cuban opposition leader José Daniel Ferrer was honored on Monday in the United States with the Truman-Reagan Medal of Freedom. This accolade was awarded in recognition of his enduring resistance to communism in Cuba and his unwavering advocacy for human rights.

Journalist Javier Díaz shared an image of the occasion, calling it the "First photo of José Daniel Ferrer being awarded the Truman-Reagan Medal of Freedom." This honor was bestowed shortly after Ferrer's arrival on American soil, following his exile by the Cuban regime.

In what was described as the most fitting tribute, this steadfast opponent of the regime received the medal not from an official institution, but from the Cuban exile community itself, serving as a symbolic affirmation of his relentless fight.

Ferrer was taken directly from Mar Verde prison to Santiago de Cuba airport, from where he was transported to the United States accompanied by his family and under the escort of U.S. consular representatives. His forced exile has been widely condemned by political figures and activists both within Cuba and internationally.

Congresswoman María Elvira Salazar, alongside other prominent figures from the Cuban exile community, stated that "neither prison nor exile can silence a free man." Meanwhile, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio highlighted that Ferrer "was tortured and imprisoned for being a threat to the regime."

The Truman-Reagan Medal, bestowed by organizations associated with the exile community, is a symbol of resistance against totalitarian regimes. In this context, it also serves as a welcoming gesture to a fighter who refused to yield to oppression and who now continues to raise his voice from a place of freedom.
