A Cuban woman living in the Allapattah neighborhood of Miami shared her harrowing experience during a shooting on her street this Thursday, which resulted in two officers being wounded and the suspect barricading himself inside a house. "I could have been killed because I sit right by the window," she told Telemundo 51, visibly shaken, as she showed the cameras a bullet hole in her home's window. "When the shots started, I got up and ran to the back of the house. I was very nervous, and I still am," she said.

Police Officers Injured in Gunfire Exchange

The violent event kicked off around 7:45 a.m. at the intersection of NW 15th Avenue and 26th Street, following several 911 calls reporting gunfire from a high-caliber weapon in the area. Officers from the Miami Police Department responded promptly, only to be met with more gunfire. A male and a female officer sustained leg injuries and were taken to Ryder Trauma Center, where they are reported to be in stable condition.

Details of the Incident

According to the police report, the shooting stemmed from a prior altercation between two brothers armed with semiautomatic rifles. The assailant, identified as 27-year-old Mason Triana, was found dead inside a nearby home after barricading himself and shooting at the officers. Authorities are still determining whether he died from police gunfire or by suicide.

His brother, 38-year-old Alan Henry Triana, was later arrested and faces multiple charges, including possession of armor-piercing ammunition, evidence tampering, and improper exhibition of firearms. As part of the operation, a raid was conducted at an auto shop owned by Alan Triana, where officers recovered an AR-15 style rifle.

Aftermath and Recovery

The injured female officer, who was shot in the knee, has been released from the hospital. Meanwhile, the sergeant, who suffered an ankle injury, remained hospitalized as of Friday.
