Ineffective Solutions to Cuba's Water Supply Crisis: "Look at the Tanker They Sent!"

Monday, October 6, 2025 by Robert Castillo

The Cuban government's attempts to address the severe water supply crisis, which has sparked protests in the capital, have proven inadequate and highlight their inefficiency. Vismark Díaz Castillo, a social media user, shared images of water tankers dispatched to alleviate the shortage. These tankers were riddled with leaks, causing water to spill out.

“After several days with no water in many parts of the country, the Cuban regime has begun sending water trucks in poor condition, leaking water everywhere. Communism not only fails to work but also doesn't function properly,” he expressed on X.

In a video, a Cuban woman captures the leaky tanker, questioning, “Look at this, after a month without water, can you tell me if this is possible?” She adds, “The tanker arrives here empty. Look at the condition it comes in. He says he doesn't know, that it's not his responsibility, and everyone here knows the state of the country,” as she confronts the tanker driver while filming.

Cuba's water crisis is not a recent issue, but incidents like this underscore the decline of basic public services and the financial burden families face to obtain essential goods. The high cost of a water tanker—equivalent to several months' salary for many Cubans—highlights the system's inadequacies.

Public frustration over the severe water supply crisis recently led a young woman in Havana to stage an unusual protest on Monte Street after going more than five days without water. The protest ended with her surrounded by police, and it later emerged that she was summoned by State Security.
