The Máximo Gómez Báez University in Ciego de Ávila acknowledged on Thursday that diplomas given to a group of 2024–2025 graduates contained registration errors. The institution announced it is actively working to rectify this issue immediately. An official statement posted on their Facebook page attributed the problem to a "technical glitch in the design system" used during printing, which led to inconsistencies in fields such as folio, volume, and diploma number.

University officials have taken full responsibility for this mistake, clarifying that it does not compromise the legal validity of the graduates' education or their academic rights. Despite this assurance, many students have voiced concerns about potential complications in future administrative processes.

Upon identifying the error, a thorough investigation was conducted to assess the scope and specific impacts of the issue. The General Secretariat confirmed that corrected diplomas are in the process of being updated, signed, and officially validated, with the aim to distribute them as swiftly as possible.

Graduate Frustrations and Public Outcry

This situation has sparked dissatisfaction among the graduates. In the Facebook group "Revolico de Ciego de Ávila todo barato," a young man named Eliezer García Delgado, who graduated in Agronomy Engineering in 2025, publicly criticized the incident. "Several faculties received diplomas with errors in the folio and registration number of the General Secretariat, as well as in the volume and folio of some faculties' Secretariats," he wrote. García Delgado emphasized that they are not seeking to assign blame but are demanding clear answers.

"We are merely seeking the unity of all affected graduates to collectively address this situation and obtain our new diplomas, as is our right," he added. He also stressed, "A diploma is given once in a lifetime, and it should be done correctly. We should not have to bear the burden of someone else's mistake." García Delgado accused university authorities of distributing the erroneous documents knowingly and even instructed to maintain silence to avoid causing panic.

Organized Efforts and Broader Educational Concerns

In response to the outcry, affected graduates have begun organizing through a WhatsApp group to collectively channel their demands. This incident is not isolated; just days ago, another controversy erupted on social media involving a different Cuban higher education institution. Thesis projects, research papers, books, and catalogs from the academic legacy of the Instituto Superior de Diseño Industrial (ISDI) were discovered discarded like trash in La Habana's Carlos J. Finlay Park, sparking outrage among alumni, professionals in the field, and cultural heritage advocates.
