The energy crisis in Cuba has reached untenable levels, prompting even the nation's most esteemed musicians to speak out against the relentless power outages plaguing the island. Carlos and Ele Alfonso, iconic figures in Cuban music and representatives of the Nueva Trova and the group Síntesis, recently took to social media to express their exasperation following a Wednesday riddled with frequent electrical interruptions.

"What an abuse, we've had three outages in one day. It's inhumane," Carlos and Ele Alfonso lamented on Facebook. Just days earlier, they had posed another poignant question: "What kind of life does a completely dark city propose?... They steal your will!" These statements not only echo the fatigue of the citizens but also the ire of artists who generally steer clear of controversy to avoid trouble.

Alexander Abreu, another celebrated Cuban musician, has similarly conveyed his frustration, albeit more cautiously. On his Facebook account, he recently remarked, "I'm about to say a bad word," highlighting the exasperation the energy crisis incites, even among the most reserved artists.

Unprecedented Electrical Deficits

Wednesday exemplified the extreme nature of the crisis: the Unión Eléctrica reported a generation deficit reaching 1906 MW by 8:40 PM, surpassing the planned 1870 MW. The blackout extended into the early hours of the morning. In Havana, the situation was particularly dire, with service interrupted for 24 hours and six grid blocks affected.

Systemic Failures and Inefficiencies

The outlook remains bleak. Today's forecast predicts an impact of 1810 MW during peak hours, underscoring the system's inability to maintain even a minimal stable supply. The reliance on outdated equipment, lack of maintenance, and absence of strategic planning reflect the government's inefficient and negligent management, leaving the island in darkness.

As prolonged blackouts disrupt daily life, essential services, and the economy, Cubans continue to await urgent solutions that the government has yet to provide. The outcry from artists like Carlos and Ele Alfonso and Alexander Abreu highlights the widespread frustration and hopelessness of a population that can no longer endure these basic supply interruptions.

With each passing day, the precariousness of the national electrical system worsens, and despite official announcements, the energy crisis in Cuba shows no visible solutions and threatens to persist in the coming days.
