Volunteers from the Red Cross in Santiago de Cuba are once again showing their dedication to the community by delivering essential supplies to families stranded due to the flooding of the Sigua River. Aris Arias Batalla, the provincial head of Operations and Aquatic Safety, shared on Facebook this Monday that the lifeguards remain actively engaged in humanitarian efforts.

Among these dedicated individuals is Sergio Antonio López, who, along with other Red Cross members from the Sigua community council, took on the mission of distributing aid to the most affected areas. "I share with you images of them transporting food and necessities to families cut off by the overflow of the Sigua River," Arias wrote, emphasizing the group's altruism and commitment.

These same rescuers had made headlines just days earlier for their heroic efforts in rescuing five people stranded on rooftops due to the same river's flooding. Among the rescuers were Sergio Antonio, Dairon López, and Julio Alberto, who received public recognition for their bravery.

Thanks to their swift actions on Saturday, they successfully saved five individuals in imminent danger: Saray, aged 17, Elian Laso, Alexei Laso, Yailenis Garbey, and Yordelis Pérez. The Red Cross praised their efforts as a testament to humanity, courage, and preparedness.

Now, these young heroes have returned to the same area, not to rescue lives in immediate peril, but to support those still suffering from the heavy rains' aftermath.
