Cuban athlete Robiel Yankiel Sol has once again proven his exceptional talent by clinching the gold medal in the T46 long jump category at the World Para Athletics Championships held in New Delhi, India, this past Sunday. As a dual Paralympic and world champion, and the current world record holder with a leap of 7.84 meters, Sol asserted his supremacy from the very first attempt. His impressive jump of 7.57 meters not only reaffirmed his global dominance in the sport but also marked the best performance of the day at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.
According to the state-run outlet Cubadebate, the silver medal went to Russian athlete Nikita Kotukov with a jump of 7.21 meters, while the bronze was claimed by China's Hao Wang, who leaped 7.19 meters. The final was a high-caliber event that kept spectators on the edge of their seats until the last jump.
In the same event, fellow Cuban Abraham Viltre (T46) unfortunately failed to register a valid attempt in any of his three jumps, leaving him without a score despite his finalist ambitions.
Sol's outstanding performance continues to elevate the hopes of the Cuban delegation, which is determined to make a mark at this twelfth edition of the world championships as they set their sights on the Los Angeles 2028 Paralympic Games.
In the upcoming days, several other Cuban athletes will compete, including Lázaro Suárez (T13) in the 100 and 400 meters, Guillermo Varona (F46), Ulicer Aguilera (F13), and Ever René Castro (F41) in the javelin, Daniel Milanés (T47) in the 400 meters, and Felipa Isis Hechavarría (T46) in the long jump. All are aiming to extend the Caribbean nation's glory at the New Delhi event.
