The Cuban Institute of Meteorology (INSMET) issued a special advisory this Thursday alerting the public to the impending threat of heavy rains and thunderstorms in the eastern regions of Cuba. According to the report, a vigorous tropical wave situated in the eastern Caribbean Sea, near Hispaniola, is already producing showers and thunderstorms affecting Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico.

As the system progresses west-northwest, there is potential for it to develop into a broad area of low pressure near the Bahamas within the next 12 to 24 hours. Although its path remains uncertain, the proximity of this weather disturbance to Cuba, combined with the region's high humidity, is likely to enhance rainfall chances from Camagüey to Guantánamo.

The advisory indicates that starting Friday, the 26th, and continuing through the weekend, widespread showers and thunderstorms are expected in these provinces. Some areas may experience intense and severe rainfall. INSMET emphasized that an additional special bulletin will be released if necessary, urging the public to stay informed through official channels during the active hurricane season.

In a related update, the National Hurricane Center (NHC) announced on Thursday that the cyclonic system "Humberto" has been upgraded to a tropical storm over the open Atlantic. Meanwhile, meteorologists are closely monitoring another tropical wave in the central Caribbean that could evolve into the next named storm, "Imelda," with the potential to impact eastern Cuba and various Caribbean nations in the coming days.
