"After years of activism, threats, beatings, repression, and political persecution by the repressive security apparatus of the state, I've had to leave this land that I love so much to protect my life," Cruz Alvarez shared in a Facebook post, accompanied by a photo of himself on a plane.
Though he did not disclose his destination, Tata Poet expressed profound gratitude to "all the friends and family who supported me through this incredibly challenging process," and regretted "not being able to say goodbye to many dear people I leave behind."
