Concerns Over Cuban Woman's Floor-Cleaning Method in the U.S.: "What Did the Landlord Say?"

Sunday, September 21, 2025 by Alex Smith

What began as a promotional video for a mop quickly sparked a flurry of responses on TikTok. A Cuban woman, known as @barbarita2221, decided to showcase the effectiveness of her new cleaning tool. To do this, she replicated a familiar cleaning method from the island: dousing the floor with soapy water and scrubbing energetically. However, the issue wasn't with the mop itself—it was the floor that caught everyone's attention.

As soon as the water hit the surface, comments began flooding in. Remarks like "That floor will lift in 3, 2, 1…," "What about mold?" and "Get ready to replace the baseboards" were among the over a thousand reactions the video received. Many viewers assumed the house was rented, prompting curious inquiries like, "What did the landlord say?" But she remained unfazed, calmly replying, "I am the owner, with God's blessing. My husband installed the floor." To further clarify, she added, "Every floor in this house was laid by him. Trust me, I can use water without a problem."

Rather than ignoring the critiques, the video's star took the time to address numerous comments, defending her cleaning style and asserting her knowledge of her flooring. To those who called her ignorant, she calmly responded, “I don’t believe I’m ignorant. I clean as I see fit and don’t tell others what they can or cannot do in their homes.” This response silenced many critics.

The mop itself received little attention. Some commenters noted its effectiveness but mentioned the handle was too short, while others admitted they liked it despite backaches. Nevertheless, the focus remained on the floor and the uniquely Cuban approach to keeping it clean without seeking anyone's permission.

Amidst the floor drama and the enduring Cuban spirit, reactions varied: some were concerned, others outraged, and many simply amused. Comments like "A true Cuban throws water and ruins the floor," "She’s left without a floor but with a mop as a keepsake," and "I do it too, and the floor's still intact" were shared with laughter and alarm.

Ultimately, the video went viral, the floor—according to her—remains intact, and the cleaning was completed. It's yet another scene illustrating the perpetual clash between customs from back home and the rules here, all with that unmistakable Cuban flair that never goes unnoticed.
