A man who suffered a brutal machete attack last Saturday in Sancti Spíritus is in urgent need of A+ blood. This plea was made public on Monday by Yureibys Torresilla, known as "El Héroe," who has been actively raising awareness about the case. In a Facebook post, Torresilla called on individuals with the A+ blood type to donate.
He provided specific details, noting that the Provincial Blood Bank is located opposite ETECSA in the city of Sancti Spíritus, and emphasized that donations should occur early Tuesday morning. The post also detailed that donors should mention: Eduardo González, bed 6, intensive care. "Please, let's help this young man survive. He was the one attacked with a machete at his home on Saturday," Torresilla urged.
In a video recorded at night outside the Camilo Cienfuegos Provincial Hospital, Torresilla reiterated the critical nature of the situation, confirming he had spoken directly with the victim's family and the intensive care doctor. "I've already been in contact with Eduardo González's family, the young man attacked outside his home. I just spoke with the intensive care doctor, and yes, we need A+ blood donors for tomorrow," he stated.
The appeal was unequivocal. "Anyone with A+ blood type, please be at the provincial blood bank at 7:30 in the morning. You'll need to provide the information, and Eduardo González's relatives will be there. See you at the provincial blood bank," he announced on Monday.
Violent Attack and Critical Condition
The incident involving Eduardo González was first reported on Saturday, September 14, when a masked assailant broke into his home near the Céspedes bakery and attacked him with a machete. The attacker fled the scene and has yet to be identified by authorities.
"The individual relentlessly struck Eduardo, the head of the house. It's truly shocking what we're experiencing. They rushed him to the hospital in terrible condition," Torresilla recounted the day of the attack.
Other individuals also commented on the severity of the situation. "He arrived in extremely poor condition, suffering from multiple machete wounds. The doctors quickly attended to him. It's heartbreaking, poor man," wrote a user named Denaidis Castro. Another, Nely Hernández, remarked, "So much violence and lawlessness. The laws are too lenient for such acts."
So far, there has been no official information released regarding the attacker or the circumstances surrounding the incident.
A Reflection of Cuba's Growing Insecurity
This attack is part of a series of violent incidents highlighting the escalating insecurity in Cuba, despite the official narrative suggesting a decline in crime rates. In July, Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz claimed that "the trend is downward," though he conceded that crime indicators remained high.
However, data from the Observatory of Cuban Citizen Audit (OCAC) contradicts this, reporting 1,319 crimes nationwide from January to June 2025 alone, including 63 murders, 16 femicides, 99 violent assaults, and 238 offenses related to vandalism, illegal possession of weapons, and smuggling.
The OCAC warns that violence in Cuba has intensified due to the economic crisis, lack of institutional response, and prioritization of political surveillance over combating common crime, leaving citizens vulnerable and without real protection in the face of such events.
