Young Spanish Criticizes Díaz-Canel: "You Should Be in Jail"

Tuesday, September 16, 2025 by Joseph Morales

A Spanish TikToker has boldly criticized Cuban leader Miguel Díaz-Canel, suggesting that he would be better off behind bars. Known by the nickname _cabriiiitaaaa_, this non-binary individual and supporter of Vox expressed strong reactions to Díaz-Canel's interview from last year with Franco-Spanish journalist Ignacio Ramonet. During the interview, Díaz-Canel, following the usual official propaganda line, blamed Cuba's issues on the "blockade."

“What blockade are you talking about? Aren't you ashamed doing what you do? Strolling around so casually, aren't you embarrassed? Even if there was a blockade from the United States, if it were lifted, the political elite would just hoard what belongs to the people and whatever the U.S. might contribute,” the TikToker criticized Diaz-Canel's justifications.

She continued, “So stop talking nonsense, you should be the one in jail.” In response to Díaz-Canel's comments about the embargo measures that intensified after Trump took office in 2020, the young critic shot back: “What are you talking about? Cuba was already in misery before 2020. Stop making things up. You should be the one imprisoned.”

She added, “The only priorities you care about are your own. Your political class has drained everything. There are stores in Cuba that only accept dollars.”

“Look, if you and Raúl Castro donated your wealth to the Cuban state, just your fortunes could solve half of the country's poverty,” she concluded.

During the nearly two-hour conversation with Ramonet, held in the Portocarrero Room of the Palace of the Revolution, Díaz-Canel once again resorted to the old narrative of U.S.-imposed "economic strangulation" on Cuba, meant to cause suffering among the Cuban people. He remarked that despite 60 years of such tactics, Cuba has not been subdued, and there has been an escalation in efforts to break them down.
