Sunday, September 14, 2025 by Sophia Martinez

David Montes de Oca, known in the music world as El Dandy and a former lead singer of Charanga Habanera, has broken his silence to publicly thank those who assisted him in turning his life around after admitting he had hit rock bottom with drug addiction in Miami.

In a video shared on the TikTok account @conductadade, which is part of an interview conducted by Dominican YouTuber Destino Tolk, El Dandy appeared visibly emotional as he recounted the rescue that took place when he was in dire straits. "First of all, I want to thank the page Conducta, an excellent person this gentleman and his wife. May God bless his family every day, because he was the one who picked me up and placed me in an anonymous drug rehabilitation center, where I stayed for almost three months," the artist revealed.

El Dandy recalled reaching the end of his strength where drugs no longer provided pleasure, only pain. "I was tired, I no longer enjoyed the high that drugs give you. I felt panic, I felt bad, I didn't enjoy it. One day I told a friend, 'Buddy, take me anywhere, to the center, but I need to move now. Get me out of here.'"

With a steady voice but showing the effects of his challenging journey, he continued, "I saw myself thin, weak, with skin burned, mouth sore... and I said: get me out of here, buddy."

The account Conducta Dade, which in July had announced the beginning of his rehabilitation, once again highlighted this new milestone for the singer, emphasizing that he remains committed to his recovery and continues to fight against his addiction.

El Dandy's story has touched thousands of fans who once watched him shine on Cuban stages and now stand by him in this journey from afar. His words convey the harsh reality of addiction but also the hope that can emerge with support and the desire to change. "I was honestly at the end of my rope. I had nothing. But thanks to the help, here I am, with the will to continue," he concluded.
