Friday, September 12, 2025 by Ava Castillo

President Donald Trump has declared with "a high degree of certainty" that authorities have apprehended the suspected murderer of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk, who was fatally shot last Wednesday at a university campus in Utah.

"I believe, with a high degree of certainty, we have him in custody," Trump stated during a morning broadcast on Fox News this Friday. The President advocated for the death penalty for the perpetrator of the crime. "In Utah, the death penalty is an option... the governor is very determined to see it applied in this case, and he should be. North Carolina also has the death penalty, but we must ensure it's enforced. This was a heinous crime," he asserted.

Trump also disclosed that he had spoken with Kirk's wife, who is "devastated." "But despite the devastation, they want to move forward and believe they can overcome this," he added.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) released a video on Thursday showing the escape of the alleged murderer of Charlie Kirk. The incident occurred on September 10 during a public event at Utah Valley University in the city of Orem, Utah.
