Washington - Charlie Kirk, a leading figure in the conservative movement and a close ally of former President Donald Trump, passed away on Wednesday after being shot at an event held at Utah Valley University. The tragic news was confirmed by Trump himself on his Truth Social platform, where he posted: "The great and legendary Charlie Kirk has passed. No one understood or connected with the youth of America better than Charlie."

Trump expressed his sorrow, adding, "I love you, brother. You gave so many people the courage to speak up, and we will never be silenced."

Initial reports indicate that the fatal shot that claimed the life of 31-year-old Kirk was fired from a building on campus, approximately 200 meters from where Kirk was addressing the public during a Utah event around 1:00 p.m. Social media videos showed that he had been struck in the neck.

FBI Director Kash Patel stated that the agency is closely monitoring the situation, with agents already on the scene to assist with the investigation.

Utah Governor Spencer Cox strongly condemned the attack, stating, "Those involved will be held fully accountable. Violence has no place in our public life. Americans, regardless of political affiliation, must unite to denounce this act."

Authorities have reported that the alleged suspect, an older male, has been apprehended, though details about his identity and the motive behind the attack remain unclear.

Kirk was the CEO and co-founder of Turning Point USA, an organization established in 2012 to promote conservative values on high school and college campuses. Throughout his career, he amassed millions of social media followers and became a powerful voice for the American right.

A staunch advocate of the Second Amendment, Kirk had previously stated that "the cost of some gun-related deaths each year is worth it to preserve the right to bear arms" and that "gun deaths are the price of freedom."

His death has sparked ironic commentary online, with some noting that Kirk ultimately became part of the statistics he defended in his speeches. Comments on social media from Americans opposing gun sales in the country include: "Rest in peace, Charlie Kirk, alongside the approximately 4,500 to 5,100 children and adolescents who have died due to gun violence, with about 2,581 such deaths recorded in 2023 and an additional 1,986 from April 2023 to September 9, 2025. We pray for ALL the families and friends affected."

Just hours before the shooting, Kirk had posted on his X profile: "Utah Valley University is LIT and READY for the first stop back."
