The United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) disclosed the identities and criminal records of 51 undocumented immigrants deemed among the most dangerous in the nation, currently held at the Louisiana State Penitentiary, often referred to as Louisiana Lockup or Angola Prison. Notably, the list includes more than 20 Cuban nationals, alongside individuals from other countries such as Venezuela, China, Iran, Russia, and Vietnam.

According to DHS, the crimes for which these individuals were convicted are serious, involving murder, rape, sexual exploitation, and assaults against minors. This publication is part of a cooperative effort between the federal government and the state of Louisiana, which expanded ICE's detention capacity by up to 416 beds. In its statement, DHS noted the facility houses:

26 undocumented immigrants convicted of murder.
8 for rape.
8 for the sexual exploitation of a minor.
9 for sexual assault on a minor.

"Murderers, pedophiles, rapists, and child predators. These are the barbaric illegal foreign criminals arrested by ICE and detained in the Louisiana jail," asserted a DHS spokesperson, emphasizing the current administration's hardline immigration stance.

Significant Cuban Presence on the List

The released names reveal a notable presence of Cubans on the list. Some of those sentenced from the island are serving lengthy sentences for murder, such as Erick Carlos Artiles Ramos, Félix Bartutis Pérez, Ricardo Blanco Chomat, or Juan Carlos Viera-Guedes, while others appear for sexual crimes, like Yamil Ballate-Martínez or Maykel Rodríguez Valladares.

The number exceeds twenty, making Cubans one of the most represented nationalities among these undocumented criminals detained in the United States. Although these are convicted criminals, the release of this list reinforces the official narrative that undocumented immigrants pose a threat to national security.

As thousands of Cubans seek refuge and better opportunities in the U.S., reports like this risk perpetuating stigmas and further intensifying the immigration debate, where criminal cases are often used to justify restrictive measures that affect families and migrants without criminal backgrounds.
