Teen Dies After Car Hits Motorcycle in Artemisa

In the early hours of Saturday morning, a tragic accident in the town of Las Mangas, located approximately seven kilometers from the municipality of Artemisa, resulted in the death of a 16-year-old teenager named Darían, who lived near the rice drying facility. The young man was riding a motorcycle when he was struck by a car reportedly traveling at high speed, as described by witnesses on social media. The news was confirmed on Facebook by a user named Alexander Ríos Cruz, who stated that the teenager did not survive the collision. Following the announcement, local residents and onlookers began to shed more light on the circumstances surrounding the unfortunate event.

Reckless Driving and Speeding

According to comments in the post, the car involved was known for speeding through the area, which also features a primary school along the main highway. "Everyone knows that car isn't from around here, but it always passed through at high speed," one user noted in agreement. The accident occurred at 5:00 am, and not only did the car hit the teenager, but it also damaged part of a house where a family was sleeping. A local entrepreneur mentioned that the distance from the point of impact to where the vehicle ended up (embedded in the house) was over 70 meters.

An eyewitness from Artemisa provided a chilling account, explaining that the car literally crashed through the wall of the residence. "The car was going so fast that it knocked down the wall and window. It's a miracle that the kids sleeping in that room weren't harmed. The window fell on them, and the car even took off the lid of the septic tank nearby," she described. Additionally, another witness reported that the car's occupants fled the scene without offering assistance: "Just seeing what that car did, you can tell how fast it was going."

Anderson Fernández, a relative of those living in the damaged house, confirmed the account: "My parents and sister experienced it firsthand and saw how they ran away like cowards. Four women got out and all fled."

Darían, the teenager who lost his life, was either 16 or 17 years old. His young age fueled a debate about parental responsibility regarding allowing minors to operate motorcycles. "Parents, children under age shouldn't be allowed to drive motorcycles. Until after 18, they don't have a license, maturity, or a sense of danger," warned a local taxi driver. However, several neighbors pointed out that, regardless of the teenager's age, it was the driver's excessive speed and irresponsibility that ultimately cost him his life. "In the end, it was the poor boy, no matter the speed, who lost his life," commented one user. "Imagine the speed of that car, it knocked down the wall of the room in the house," remarked a resident from Miami, expressing outrage over the incident.

This tragic event has left a sense of grief within the young man's family and has alarmed the community, which now calls for stricter traffic control and harsher penalties for those who recklessly transform streets into racetracks, endangering innocent lives.
