The summer closing festivities in Manzanillo, located in the Granma province, took a tragic turn when a man with a criminal record brutally attacked a neighbor with a machete during the celebrations. The incident took place in the Las Novillas neighborhood, where the assailant, known for his past crimes, violently interrupted the festivities and fatally assaulted another individual.

According to reports shared on the pro-government Facebook page Entérate con Aytana Alama, the attack appeared to be a result of a personal vendetta. Witnesses indicated that the attacker accused the victim of betraying him following a robbery they had both been involved in, leading to the deadly confrontation.

Residents recounted that after the murder, the perpetrator attempted to track down two other men from the same group, threatening to take their lives as well. Fortunately, these individuals managed to hide and evade the attack, as highlighted by the regime's spokesperson page.

Although the criminal initially fled the scene, he was soon apprehended by the police. His arrest brought a sense of relief to the community, which mourned the loss but felt reassured knowing the suspect was in custody.

Rising Violence During Cuban Celebrations

Violence and crime rates have reached alarming levels during public celebrations in Cuba. In Santiago de Cuba, another celebration ended tragically when a young father named Roberto Castilla Oñate was fatally stabbed in the street, allegedly due to issues involving a former partner. His attackers were reportedly part of a local gang.

During the Santiago carnival, violent clashes became a common occurrence. One of the most notable incidents involved street fights on the central Trocha street, where attendees criticized the insufficient police presence. Prior to this, a violent brawl during pre-carnival events left a lasting impact on locals, who questioned the authorities' ability to maintain safety.

Escalating Incidents Across Cuba

Similar violent episodes have been reported in other regions of Cuba. In Pinar del Río, a gatecrasher at a party assaulted a young man with a bottle, resulting in severe facial injuries. Although neighbors managed to subdue the attacker, the absence of police intervention sparked outrage within the community.

More recently, in Santiago de Cuba, authorities arrested four individuals connected to a multiple homicide case that shocked the San Pedrito neighborhood. The arrests followed an extensive investigation supported by eyewitness accounts and surveillance footage. Additionally, a suspect in another murder case in the same city was captured after allegedly attempting to cover up the crime by setting the crime scene on fire. Initial reports suggest that this suspect also had a history of violent behavior.
