Experiencing New Horizons: Cuban Content Creator's Joyful Discoveries in Spain

Monday, September 1, 2025 by Oscar Guevara

The Cuban content creator known as @soyalicia_03, who recently made the move from her homeland to Spain, continues to share her initial experiences outside of Cuba on social media. Her latest videos capture the novelty of everyday situations that were previously unattainable in Cuba.

In a particular post, she expresses her excitement while visiting a fast-food restaurant, experiencing KFC for the first time. "After 21 years, I'm finally going to a KFC," she exclaims. "Yes, I've been in Spain for two weeks now, and I'm checking off all the places I've always wanted to visit—KFC included."

She described her order in detail: the large menu with 12 pieces of chicken, fries, and soft drinks. "I couldn't believe it, it's just like the movies," she remarked. She was thrilled to be able to refill her drinks as much as she wanted and found the fries "incredibly tasty" and the chicken "delicious." Despite noting it was a bit greasy, she concluded, "For an occasional treat, I suppose it's fine."

When someone inquired about the cost, she mentioned that the entire meal was "less than 50 euros" and the smaller menu ranged from "10 to 15 euros."

This content follows her initial testimony on her first day in Spain, where she visited McDonald's, supermarkets, and department stores. Reflecting on her McDonald's visit, she said, "First stop, McDonald's, indeed. Just walking through the door, I couldn't believe it; it's like being in a movie."

In another recent post, @soyalicia_03 shared her first taste of kiwi. "Of all the fruits I've never tried before, today we have kiwi," she stated. "I'm Cuban and I've been here in Spain for about three weeks now." After tasting it with a spoon, she added, "Delicious, so good, super sweet, I never imagined I would be able to eat all this."

Following her experience, many users suggested she try other fruits like nectarines, peaches, plums, cantaloupe, and yogurts. She also received welcome messages and inquiries about her departure from Cuba. In response to one comment, she simply replied, "In Cuba, there's nothing."

The videos by this user add to a growing trend of Cubans documenting their first-time experiences after emigrating. These moments, ranging from visiting a supermarket to tasting basic foods, highlight the stark contrast between life in Cuba and the opportunities available in other countries.
