In the early hours of Saturday, a tragic accident on Interstate 75 in western Broward, Florida resulted in at least one fatality and left three others hospitalized. The Broward Sheriff's Office Fire Rescue (BSFR) reported that the incident occurred around 1:45 a.m. at Mile Marker 49, when a Florida Department of Transportation truck was struck by a pickup truck towing a boat.
The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) later explained that the pickup truck, hauling a boat on a trailer, was heading southbound on I-75 at mile marker 49. At the same location, another vehicle was engaged in painting lane markings on the road and shoulder, accompanied by a slow-moving Scorpion Road Construction Crash Truck for traffic protection.
Failing to decelerate or yield to the vehicles moving slowly on the shoulder, the pickup truck collided with the rear of the traffic protection truck. As a result of the impact, the protection truck then crashed into the rear of the vehicle conducting the line painting, according to the FHP.
The driver of the protection truck was trapped and had to be extracted by rescue teams, as reported by NBC Miami. He was airlifted to a hospital with severe injuries, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Three individuals were inside the pickup truck. One was airlifted by Palm Beach County Fire Rescue, while the other two were transported by ambulance to a medical facility. The Florida Highway Patrol is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident.
