Michel Medina Gómez, an employee injured in last week's violent altercation at the Somos Jóvenes cultural center in Santa Clara, has been discharged from the hospital after undergoing a complex neurosurgery at the Arnaldo Milián Castro Provincial Hospital. According to state journalist Henry Omar Pérez, Medina is now recuperating at home with the support of his family.

The incident, which shocked the Villa Clara community, resulted in the death of Derlis Machado Terero, another employee who was killed while trying to shield patrons from the attackers. Both Medina Gómez and Yulier Alba Zamora, who has also been released from medical care, suffered injuries during the confrontation.

Community Support and Ongoing Investigation

Arturo González Rodríguez, the director of Somos Jóvenes, announced that a support strategy has been put in place for Medina and the family of Machado, emphasizing that "Somos Jóvenes is more than just a cultural center: we are a family." The violent episode, perpetrated by two brothers, has left Santa Clara in a state of disbelief. The suspects were apprehended by Ministry of the Interior agents and are currently undergoing legal proceedings.

Rising Incidents of Violence

Despite the tragic event, the Somos Jóvenes recreational center remains open and continues to serve the community, as reported. However, street violence in Cuba has seen a troubling increase in recent days. Last week, another violent incident occurred involving several women attacked at the intersection of Trocha and Cristina streets in Santiago de Cuba, witnessed by shocked passersby.

Similarly, a city bus in Havana was the target of a vandal attack early Sunday morning when unidentified individuals threw stones at the vehicle during its route. These events highlight a growing concern about public safety across the island.
