A tragic accident in the rural community of Jamaica, located in the Manuel Tames municipality of Guantánamo, has resulted in the deaths of a teenager and her mother. They were struck by a car while walking on a sidewalk with other family members. The deceased have been identified as 17-year-old Eliesny Durán Llorente and her mother, Yaislin Llorente Matos.

Three additional individuals were injured in the incident: the stepfather and younger sister of the deceased teenager, as well as a niece of the woman, as confirmed by journalist Miguel Reyes Mendoza on social media. Photos of the car involved in the accident show it was completely wrecked.

Details Emerge About the Driver

According to the news outlet La Tijera, the driver of the vehicle was a young man named Eduardo Laborde. Witnesses and family members allege that he was intoxicated and driving without a license when he veered onto the sidewalk, hitting the family.

In response to the incident, a man claiming to be the driver's brother defended him on social media: "Everyone grieves differently, and I grieve for my brother. I understand that justice must be served, but he is not a bad person. Accidents happen in the blink of an eye," he stated. "Both families are suffering, and we should be mindful of our comments, as they can cause further harm."

Community Reaction and Calls for Justice

While some who know the driver maintain that he was not intoxicated and that it was a terrible accident, the overwhelming sentiment among commenters is a demand for strict legal action and justice for the two deceased.

The mother and daughter were mourned in their hometown of Zabala, Sagua de Tánamo, in the province of Holguín. In a recent update, journalist Miguel Reyes requested "mercury and wet wipes for the young girl from the Manuel Tames accident who is hospitalized in critical condition."
