At the age of 64, Cuban actor Patricio Wood, renowned for his work in Cuban cinema and television, has chosen to settle in Spain. Sources close to the actor confirmed to CubaNet in Madrid that his decision was largely driven by family considerations.

"Patricio decided to move to Madrid primarily for his family, although he intends to maintain his connections with Cuban television and other undisclosed projects," a colleague familiar with Wood's plans stated.

Wood's relocation echoes a trend among many Cuban artists who have left the island in recent years, seeking better opportunities and escaping Cuba's challenging economic, social, and political climate. While Wood has not made an official public announcement about his move, his social media activity indicates he has been in Europe since March, with posts from various cities like Madrid and Venice.

Through these platforms, he has shared videos about his career, personal stories, and reflections on acting, suggesting that his commitment to Cuban culture remains strong despite his change in residence.

With this new chapter in Spain, Wood joins a growing number of creators and intellectuals who have moved their lives and work outside of Cuba, yet maintain ties with the audiences that watched them grow and become cultural icons.

Wood is a pivotal figure in Cuban arts, with a career spanning over four decades. He starred in iconic films such as "Los sobrevivientes" (directed by Tomás Gutiérrez Alea), "Guardafronteras," and "El Brigadista" (directed by Octavio Cortázar), as well as "Caravana" (directed by Rogelio París), all of which are celebrated milestones in 1970s and 1980s Cuban cinema.

On television, one of his most memorable roles was in the series "Algo más que soñar," where he appeared alongside actors like Luis Alberto García, Rolando Brito, Enrique Álvarez, Isabel Santos, and Beatriz Valdés.

His career is also marked by his family's legacy. He is the son of the famed Salvador Wood and Yolanda Pujols, legendary figures in Cuban acting known for their staunch support of the communist government. The acting tradition continues into the third generation with Gabriel Wood, Patricio's son, who entered the acting profession years ago.

Gabriel Wood, however, chose to leave Cuba sooner than his father. In 2022, he moved to the United States with his wife and young daughter. In an interview on the program La Casa de Maka, hosted by María Karla Rivero (daughter of actress Coralita Veloz), he explained his decision: "The first thing I said was, 'my daughter cannot grow up in a system like this, we have to leave.'
