A truck lost control and overturned at a notoriously hazardous roundabout in Santa Clara, Villa Clara, with no injuries reported. "Accident at dawn, roundabout of Highway and Bypass, Santa Clara Villa Clara," wrote Osmeidi Ruiz in the Facebook group "Traffic Accidents in Cuba and Road Information."

Friends of the truck driver clarified in the comments that despite the dramatic nature of the accident, there were no injuries. Some commenters noted that such accidents are preventable, emphasizing that any reckless driving or speeding can lead to similar incidents at this curve.

This isn't the first time a crash has occurred at this roundabout. Last June, a vintage car and a Peugeot 405 collided here, also without any fatalities. On the same Sunday, another truck overturned on Monumental Road before the Santa Fe bridge in the Guanabacoa municipality of Havana, raising concerns about the effectiveness of traffic inspectors in high-risk areas.

Moreover, on Saturday afternoon, a severe road accident happened in Las Guásimas, Arroyo Naranjo municipality (Havana), resulting in significant material damage and injuring a motorcyclist, whose condition remains unknown.

Between January and March 2025, Cuba recorded 1,738 accidents, which is a decrease of 144 from the same period last year. The number of injured people also dropped to 1,514, 87 fewer than in 2024. However, fatalities increased from 146 to 173, marking a rise of 27 deaths.

Despite the implementation of control measures, road accidents remain a critical issue in Cuba. The government continues to blame human error while sidestepping structural causes such as the poor state of roads, inadequate signage, and the public transportation crisis that forces many to rely on unsafe transport options.
