A recent video shared by the independent outlet CubaNet highlights the severe flooding on Cerro Avenue in Havana following Friday's torrential rains. The footage exposes not only the heavy rainfall but also the failure of the sewage system and the streets strewn with garbage, which contributed to the floodwaters rising dangerously close to the iconic archways of this well-known thoroughfare.

Local resident Leonor Domínguez remarked that the downpour seemed quite typical and did not last long. However, she attributed the flooding primarily to the widespread decay present across the city. "It's the decay everywhere that's mainly to blame," she indicated.

Flooding has become a regular ordeal for Havana's residents. On August 11, relentless rains inundated streets, trapped vehicles, and flooded homes throughout various parts of the Cuban capital. The combination of the deluge and electrical storms led to significant water accumulation, especially in poorly drained areas like Vía Blanca, Vento-Lacret, and the Avenida del Puerto. Despite fire department interventions, a bus was left stranded in the floodwaters.

Tragically, the relentless rainfall led to the death of a five-month-old baby when water forcefully entered their home after a wall collapsed. This heartbreaking event took place in the Cerro municipality, one of the hardest-hit areas during the severe storm.
