Monday, August 18, 2025 by Richard Morales

The alleged perpetrators behind the deadly attack at the Somos Jóvenes Cultural Center in Santa Clara on Saturday have been apprehended by the Ministry of the Interior forces. The tragic incident left one person dead and two others injured. This development was confirmed on Monday by Henry Omar Pérez, a state journalist from the Cuban News Agency, who shared the news on Facebook, attributing the arrests to the investigative efforts following the incident.

The suspects are expected to face legal proceedings in court in the coming days. "There will never be impunity for those who commit crimes, especially for those who take away the most precious asset: life," Pérez stated, although he withheld the identities of the arrested individuals.

Journalist Mario Vallejo identified the suspected murderer as Roberto Carlos Rodríguez, locally known as "jimagua," a nickname stemming from having a twin brother who was also involved in the altercation and sustained injuries.

The violent clash, involving the twins, erupted on Saturday night and resulted in three workers suffering injuries. Tragically, one succumbed to his wounds, another is in intensive care with head injuries, and the third was released after being stabbed in the back.

Despite circulating rumors of additional fatalities, the official statement confirmed only one death and two injured individuals: Michel Medina Gómez, who remains hospitalized, and Yulier Alba Zamora, who has been discharged.

Prior to the arrests, Betsy Díaz Velázquez, the Minister of Domestic Trade, had disclosed on social media that the attackers, identified as siblings, had initially evaded capture, prompting a widespread police search throughout Villa Clara.
