The Cuban comedian Mario Sardiñas, famously known for his role as Chequera in the classic comedy show Vivir del Cuento, might currently be in the United States. However, there has been no official confirmation from the actor himself. Speculation began after the Tampa, Florida-based restaurant Noventa Millas Pizza announced Sardiñas' visit to their establishment on August 14.
The buzz started with a photo posted by the restaurant showing Sardiñas posing next to a buoy marked "334 miles from Cuba," mimicking the famous marker in Key West that's 90 miles from the island. In addition, the actor recently shared on his Instagram a promotional video for the pizzeria and another one for a flan business, both featuring him driving on an American highway.
While some internet users doubt the authenticity of these images, others are convinced of his presence in the U.S., expressing certainty with comments like, "Chequera is in the yuma." At 49 years old, this wouldn't be Sardiñas' first visit to the U.S. It remains unclear if this trip is merely a visit or if he plans to stay in Florida for a longer period.
Many Cubans are speculating on social media whether Chequera intends to follow the path of other Vivir del Cuento colleagues who recently emigrated, such as Andy Vázquez (Facundo), Omar Franco (Ruperto), Irela Bravo (Cachita), Wilber Gutiérrez (Chacón), or his most loyal co-star on the show, Luis Silva (Pánfilo).
As of now, neither Sardiñas nor his fellow actors have confirmed or denied his presence in the U.S. For over 15 years, Vivir del Cuento was one of Cuba's most beloved television shows. Many fans have expressed on social media, "We hope they all reunite in Miami; we want to see them perform together again."
