Former presidential candidate and ex-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has stated that she would consider nominating President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, but only if he meets a critical condition: ending the war in Ukraine without any loss of territory to Russia. Clinton shared this perspective on Thursday during the podcast Raging Moderates, posing it as a challenge to Trump's planned meeting with Vladimir Putin on Friday. She underscored that any acceptable resolution must uphold Ukraine's territorial integrity.

The seasoned American politician emphasized, “My goal here is not to allow a capitulation to Putin,” acknowledging that her proposal is part of a challenge that questions Trump's ability to broker an agreement with the Russian leader. “Honestly, if he could achieve the end of this terrible war, if he could do it without putting Ukraine in a position where they have to cede territory to the aggressor, if he could truly stand up to Putin — something we haven't seen, but perhaps this is the chance — if President Trump were the orchestrator of that, I would nominate him for a Nobel Peace Prize,” she stressed. This context is particularly fascinating given the historically adversarial relationship between Clinton and Trump.

Clinton's announcement coincided with a high-profile summit in Alaska between Trump and Putin, with cautious hopes of achieving at least a reduction in hostilities. On Friday, aboard Air Force One, Fox News host Bret Baier, traveling with Trump to Alaska for his pivotal meeting with Putin, asked about Clinton's comments. “That's very nice,” Trump responded. “I may have to start liking her again,” he joked, referring to his former 2016 election rival.

Trump's meeting with Putin was part of his efforts to negotiate an end to the war in Ukraine, one of his campaign promises from the previous year. He added that he was prepared to “walk away” from the meeting if the Russian leader did not agree to his terms for resolving the conflict. However, the meeting concluded with a telling phrase: “No deal until there's a deal,” encapsulating the lack of concrete outcomes.
