An afternoon shooting on Tuesday in Miami's Little Havana neighborhood resulted in one man's death and another suffering critical injuries. Authorities are treating the incident as a planned attack.

The violent episode unfolded around 6:44 p.m. at the crossroads of Southwest 4th Street and 10th Avenue in Miami-Dade. According to Telemundo 51, two men standing on the sidewalk were caught off guard when a vehicle stopped in front of them. The driver exited and opened fire multiple times before fleeing the scene.

Rescue teams arriving at the location found a man aged between 42 and 43, identified by his family as Juan Chaneton, who succumbed to his injuries, reportedly from a headshot. As per his father's statement to Telemundo 51, Chaneton was playing basketball when the shooting began, leaving behind four children.

The second victim, a man aged between 50 and 60, sustained gunshot wounds and was rushed in critical condition to the trauma center at Jackson Memorial Hospital, reported by local outlets like Local10.

Residents informed WSVN that they heard "about six shots" and expressed fear over the escalating violence in the area, noting another shooting nearby just two months prior.

Michael Vega, the Miami Police spokesperson, stated that an individual was taken into custody at the scene, but clarified that this was a key witness isolated to prevent exposure to misleading information that could taint their testimony.

Police have secured the area while detectives collect evidence and seek surveillance footage or eyewitnesses to identify the shooter. As of now, no vehicle description has been released.

Authorities urge anyone with information to contact the Miami Police Department or Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
