The United States Coast Guard issued a strong advisory on Tuesday, urging the maritime community to stay alert and take necessary precautions well in advance of potential conditions resulting from Tropical Storm Erin. In a statement shared on social media platform X, the agency emphasized the significance of closely monitoring the storm's progress and consulting official forecasts provided by the National Hurricane Center (hurricanes.gov) or their account @NHC_Atlantic.

"The Coast Guard strongly advises the maritime community to remain vigilant and implement necessary measures long before a potential storm arrives," the institution stated.

Erin emerged on Monday in the eastern Atlantic waters and, according to the NHC, could strengthen over the coming days, potentially becoming the first major hurricane of the 2025 season.

Additional Alerts for Florida's Region

The Miami-Dade County Emergency Management office has also warned residents to gear up for the ongoing hurricane season, given the possibility that Tropical Storm Erin could escalate and impact South Florida in the near future. In a message shared on X, the agency emphasized the importance of having an emergency kit ready, which includes food, water, medications, and supplies for both families and their pets. "Be prepared for this hurricane season," the office stressed.

Erin's Potential Intensification

As per the NHC, at 5:00 a.m. local time, Erin's center was located near latitude 17.4°N and longitude 34.3°W, approximately 1,105 km west of Cape Verde and 3,045 km east of the northern Leeward Islands. The system exhibited maximum sustained winds of 75 km/h with stronger gusts, moving westward at 35 km/h. Additionally, tropical storm-force winds extended up to 75 km from the center.

Call for Preparedness

Though it remains too early to predict Erin's exact path, authorities caution that the storm's expected rapid intensification and the active hurricane season necessitate staying informed and reviewing family emergency plans. Past experiences demonstrate that early preparedness can significantly impact the safety of the population.
