A massive blaze broke out Saturday afternoon, consuming an auto parts warehouse in Medley, a part of Miami-Dade County. The fire partially collapsed the roof while employees were still inside. Fortunately, all workers were safely evacuated, as confirmed by the Miami-Dade Fire Rescue (MDFR) to CBS News.
The fire ignited around 1:52 p.m. at a facility near the 7500 block of Northwest 82nd Place, where parts for the used car dealership HGreg were being restored. Upon the firefighters' arrival, smoke and flames were visible from several locations across the city, even from the Palmetto Expressway.
Escalating Response to the Inferno
Due to the fire's intensity, the initial response was upgraded from a second to a third alarm, with approximately 40 rescue units dispatched. Firefighters employed ladders, foam, and water jets to subdue the flames. The partial roof collapse necessitated defensive firefighting from the building's exterior.
Although no injuries were reported, the blaze intensified swiftly, fueled by the presence of engines, tires, and other auto parts within the warehouse. Nearby businesses remained unaffected by the fire.
Investigation into the Fire's Origin
A hazardous materials truck joined the safety efforts after 8:20 p.m. to continue securing the area. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. MDFR stated that a specialized team is working to determine the blaze's origin, which might be linked to the combustion of stored materials.
Recently, another significant fire engulfed an abandoned warehouse near Northeast Second Avenue and 78th Street in Miami, prompting a large response from the City of Miami Fire Rescue Department. Initially, firefighters entered the building to directly combat the fire and search for any trapped individuals.
After confirming no one was inside and faced with structural collapse risks, crews evacuated the building about ten minutes after arriving. The flames, primarily fed by large quantities of wood stored on-site, were brought under control following two hours of intense efforts.
