Neighborhood Residents Nearly Take Justice into Their Own Hands with Burglar in Central Havana

A suspected burglar narrowly avoided being beaten by residents of Central Havana after being caught inside a home in the early morning hours. The incident took place at around 1:00 a.m. on Saturday in the Belascoaín area, where locals noticed the break-in and chose to act due to the immediate absence of the police, according to the Facebook profile "Díaz Canel Sin Gao."

Witnesses recounted that the neighbors managed to subdue the suspect and held him until authorities arrived at dawn. During the time he was in the community's custody, the man was beaten and sustained visible injuries. The delayed police response frustrated residents, who pointed out that this was not the first time they felt compelled to take matters into their own hands in response to security threats.
