Too Much Cuban Culture? Cuban Woman Responds to Critics of Miami's Cuban Population

Sunday, August 10, 2025 by Matthew Diaz

A Cuban woman residing in Miami has sparked a social media frenzy with a candid video addressing those who claim they dislike living in the city because it's "full of Cubans." Her message, brimming with cultural pride and identity, has resonated strongly within the Cuban community.

TikTok user @rosabelyvalentina2 begins her video with a look of disbelief, stating, "Excuse me?" She then critiques, "I'm amazed when I hear people say they wouldn't live in Miami because it's full of Cubans."

Rosabel argues that emigrating does not mean denying who we are. "We flee hunger, poverty, and uncertainty... but we don't flee from our race, our customs, or our people," she reflects in the video, which has already garnered dozens of supportive comments.

Far from feeling embarrassed, she expresses comfort in being surrounded by familiar things: "I do live in Miami, and I love living here. Because on every corner, in every greeting or meal, there's a piece of who I am that I don't want to lose. I'm proudly Cuban."

The responses came swiftly. "Proudly Cuban too, I love Miami, I cherish my roots," one follower commented. Others praised her authenticity, agreeing that the issue isn't the "Cuban culture" but rather a lack of identity among some individuals.

Rosabel concludes her message with a phrase that has been widely shared: "No matter how they dress, speak, or where they live, they'll never stop being Cuban."
