Alexander Raúl Pupo Casas, a Cuban doctor, announced this Saturday his decision to pursue a military career in the United States. "This is my last weekend in Florida. Starting Monday, I embark on my military career in this amazing country that has turned my dreams into a worthy reality," he shared on Facebook. Pupo expressed his hope that "what I learn may one day help liberate my people back home... God Bless America."

While residing in Cuba, Alexander Pupo was a vocal critic of the public health system and frequently condemned the poor management of hospitals on the Internet. This defiant stance led to his dismissal from his job. In 2022, along with his colleague Alexander Jesús Figueredo Izaguirre, he decided to leave the country. After enduring a challenging journey through Central America and Mexico, they finally arrived in the United States by the end of July.

Within less than a month of his arrival, Pupo managed to purchase a car. "Twenty-one days of work in a free country, as a simple laborer, has given me what I wouldn't have achieved in 30 years of working as a doctor in an oppressive country," he wrote. By November of that year, he disclosed that he was working in a staffing position in Florida, where he earned "around 50 times what he made in Cuba."

"In two or three months, I've acquired things I could never have in Cuba. I hold onto the hope of practicing medicine again, as I continue to prepare for it. I have everything I need..." Pupo conveyed. He consistently emphasized his goal of returning to the medical field. "I hope to reclaim my white coat soon, but if not, I will take pride in being a man of law..." he remarked.

"No matter how long the road is, you are your own engine and your own barrier. Medicine, I'm coming for you," he wrote on Facebook, alongside a photo of him studying at a computer. Since arriving in the United States, life has been smiling on the Cuban doctor, who in July of last year welcomed his daughter Alessandra, bringing him "an indescribable and complete joy" for the first time in a long while.
