Cuban athlete Erick Hernández made headlines this Saturday by setting a new world record for ball control using a Baseball Five ball. During an unprecedented attempt at the Hotel Copacabana in Havana, the record holder managed to make an astonishing 4,626 head touches in just 35 minutes, according to the state-run Cuban News Agency (ACN).

The Baseball Five rubber ball presents a unique challenge due to its much smaller striking surface compared to a soccer ball, adding an extra layer of difficulty for "The Dominator." "It's a completely different experience," Hernández explained to ACN. "It demands absolute concentration because even a slight deviation can cause you to lose control of the ball."

Hernández, who is 59 years old and has a history of over 30 world records, many of which are recognized by World Guinness Records, shared that this particular ball requires a more inclined neck position, which is more taxing physically. "It's not the same as controlling a conventional ball," he added. "The Baseball Five ball is smaller, faster, and less predictable in its bounce."

The former soccer player also announced his plans to adapt this innovative practice to a seated position, which he describes as "extremely demanding due to the strain on the lower back." However, before that, he intends to attempt the record for the most soccer ball touches in one minute, aiming for Guinness certification.

"This is a tribute to Cuban Baseball Five players, who have brought us so much joy with their world titles. The sport has grown significantly in our country, and I wanted to honor it with a record of this magnitude," Hernández stated after achieving his third record of the year.

In April, Hernández kept a ball in the air for 10 hours, 13 minutes, and 3.88 seconds, using only his feet and head, without relying on his thighs. His extensive collection of world records includes achievements in controlling the ball with thighs, knees, head, and feet, as well as during sprints and marathons. His name has been in the Guinness Book of World Records since 2005 when he made 319 head touches in one minute.
