A young Cuban, known on TikTok as @papa44646, has reported a burglary where all his appliances and belongings were stolen from his residence in Kansas City, United States. "Check this out, folks. I thought this would only happen in Cuba. Look, it's not just in Cuba, look at this, don't miss it," he says before revealing the empty rooms.
He explains, "I was away for a few days working elsewhere, and when I came back, my home looked like an empty baseball field. Look at this: fridge, TV, stove, all brand new. I didn't even get a chance to use them, it's crazy," he recounted in the video posted on his account.
The video, which is under a minute long, shows the man displaying his nearly empty home. According to him, he had barely had time to use the new equipment before the theft occurred. The post sparked hundreds of comments and ignited a debate about security and the potential dangers of sharing private life details on social media.
Many users warned about the risks of announcing absences online: "That's what happens when you're constantly on social media, announcing where you are, with thieves watching." Others suggested it might have been someone he knew: "Check your close circle, investigate," "It was someone from your group of friends; it's always someone who knows you."
The creator himself confirmed to users that the incident took place in Kansas City and that he no longer had security cameras in his home. Several advised him to get insurance and install alarms connected to the police.
This isn't the first time the Cuban has gone viral on social media. Last March, he shared his challenge of renovating a house in just one month, showing on TikTok how he transformed a home in terrible condition. "Check this out. This house, the floor, the kitchen... It looks like a witch's house. I have to do it all by myself, and they gave me a month. Let's see if I can make it," he said at that time.
Understanding Home Security Risks
What steps can you take to improve home security?
To enhance home security, consider installing an alarm system connected to local authorities, using security cameras, securing windows and doors, and avoiding sharing travel plans on social media.
How can social media usage impact home safety?
Posting about your location or absence can alert potential thieves to an empty home, increasing the risk of burglary. It's advisable to share such details only when necessary and with trusted individuals.
