Maxwell Fires Back at Johayron's Comment: "I Can't Allow My Work to Be Erased"

Thursday, July 31, 2025 by Alex Smith

The Cuban reggaeton artist Maxwell has taken a strong stance on social media following remarks made by fellow musician Johayron. Johayron recently said in a live stream that the world still lacks a "global hit" in the Cuban 'reparto' music scene. Although Maxwell didn't mention Johayron directly, his response appeared to be aimed squarely at the young artist, leaving no room for misinterpretation.

"Why are there colleagues in the genre constantly saying that we need to finally make a worldwide 'reparto' hit, as if one doesn't already exist," Maxwell questioned in his Instagram stories. "It's baffling how everyone tries to overshadow such a significant achievement. Enough is enough, I'm tired of them acting like it never happened."

Accompanying his strong words was a video, where Maxwell explained that though he hadn't initially planned to post the message, he felt compelled to address the lack of acknowledgment: "I've changed and evolved as an artist and person. I've left many things behind. But I had to post this because many artists and people are ignoring what's already there. They talk about making it international, as if a global hit hasn't already been made," he stated.

"Instead, they should say: let's achieve another global hit or multiple hits after the existing one. I've changed, but I can't allow my accomplishments to be erased or overshadowed. Anyone would feel the same," Maxwell affirmed.

This reaction comes just days after Johayron suggested that Cuban 'reparto' still needs a song with universal impact. While he acknowledged that Maxwell achieved this with "Triple M," he added that "it was a cover" and that its success wasn't managed well. "You lose your mind, and no one knows how to handle it. You have to learn," Johayron commented during the live stream.

"Triple M," released by Maxwell, is considered one of the biggest hits in Cuban 'reparto'. The track boasts 100 million views on YouTube, 60 million streams on Spotify, 2.7 million views on TikTok, and has earned gold, platinum, and double platinum certifications. Even influencer Georgina Rodríguez, partner of Cristiano Ronaldo, has shared several videos featuring the song.

Maxwell, who insists he is in a new phase both personally and artistically, made it clear that he will not allow his career and the success he achieved with "Triple M" to be diminished or forgotten.
