Chocolate MC in Solitary Confinement: Troubling Allegations Surrounding His Detention

Cuban reggaeton artist Yosvanis Arismin Sierra Hernández, known by his stage name Chocolate MC, is currently held in solitary confinement at the TGK jail in Miami-Dade. This follows an alleged suicide attempt, as revealed by his partner, Yelena Ramírez, during an interview with Univision. According to Ramírez, he was found with a sheet around his neck in what appeared to be an attempt to take his life. "Initially, a guard called me to inform that they found him with a sheet around his neck, almost dead," Ramírez recounted to journalist Mario Vallejo.

Ramírez accused prison authorities of attempting to cover up the incident, stating that Chocolate managed to send her a message through another inmate. The artist reportedly complained of being beaten, denied food, and being prevented from communicating with anyone to avoid disclosure of his situation. Furthermore, Yelena claimed that even the singer's lawyer was misled about his whereabouts. "You searched for him in the prison system and he was nowhere to be found, as if they were hiding him," she added, emphasizing the critical conditions her partner is enduring. "Every day, it's more beatings... they deny him food, they keep him in that hole," she concluded, without specifying if Chocolate is receiving any psychological help in jail following the suicide attempt.

Mental Health Background and Statements from Jail

In a recent phone interview with Univision, Chocolate MC himself acknowledged having suffered from two chronic mental illnesses since childhood and mentioned being admitted to a psychiatric clinic during his youth. Despite this, the reporter noted that during the conversation, the artist appeared surprisingly lucid and articulate, contrasting with his usual behavior outside of prison. "We realized during the interview that he's practically a different person. In jail, without access to drugs, he was eloquent and able to answer all our questions, something that was nearly impossible before," the journalist observed.

Concerns Over His Safety

Ramírez's main concern is his isolation and the alleged physical and psychological abuse he is enduring. "They are beating him, keeping him isolated, denying him food... he attempted suicide," Ramírez reiterated. So far, prison authorities have not released an official account of the events.

The reggaeton star has been incarcerated for nearly two months. He was arrested on June 2nd after kidnapping and threatening a fan with a firearm, holding him captive for several hours. On June 5th, Chocolate appeared before Judge Mindy S. Glazer in Miami, where he was denied bail for violating previous release conditions. During the hearing, Yosvanis Arismin Sierra Hernández refuted claims of insanity, stating he feels "safer in jail." "Someone on the street is paying to have me killed like they did to El Taiger," he claimed. "I don't want a lawyer, even my lawyer is on loan. They are trying to portray me as crazy," he insisted. Chocolate MC faces charges of kidnapping and armed robbery, although the gun used in the incident was fake.

This case adds to a legal history involving accusations of domestic violence, drug possession, and alleged conspiracy to murder the supposed killer of El Taiger. It marks the fifth open case against him in Florida and his ninth arrest in eight years.
